Bird is a Word

Th 1963 song "Surfin' Bird(Bird is a Word) " by The Trashmen is a strange, yet addicting song. If you have seen the most recent episode of Family Guy, "I dream of Jesus" you kow what I am talking about. To be honest, I cannot see how this song reached #4 on Billboards top 100 in 1963.

As insidious as "Surfing Bird" can be as a whole, the refrain of "oom-papa-mow-mow" might even be more influential in pop culture, showing up in a wide variety of musical guises.

Oh, and have you seen Pee Wee Herman's cover of "Surfing Bird?"

LOL! I have never saw that! Thanks for sending me the link.

As you were saying, "Oom-papa-mow-mow" does show up a lot of forms of music. When you mentioned it, the first song I thought about was "Elvira" by The Oak Ridge Boys, which I have on my MP3 at this very moment.

Yes, I know, I know... It is very strange for a teenager to be listening to older country music. But, I absolutely hate the crap some of the other teens listen to now. As far out of my spectrum of music I will go is "You were meant for me" by Jewel. Other than that, I am pretty much a strict Oldies-Country listener.
